Wet Plate Photography with Mark Burnham

September 21 @ 10:00 am 3:00 pm

66 Main Street
Stamford, NY 12167 United States

Most of us carry one of the most powerful cameras ever created in our pocket at all times. We don’t even think about snapping off a few pictures and sending them to our friends, families and coworkers. It’s difficult to remember the before times, when photography was an art that balanced composition, technical skill and chemical processes.

For fans of photography, working with film can be an invigorating challenge, reawakening long forgotten memories of high school dark rooms and the smell of developer on our hands.

Wet plate photography takes us even further back in time — this 19th century technique is one of the earliest forms of photography. From making wet plates, to long, slow exposures this workshop will give participants an in depth, hands-on experience with the core processes of the wet plate technique.

No previous photography is necessary and all participants will have the opportunity to make multiple unique beautiful images to take home.

Mark Burnahm is a lifelong photography enthusiast. He has mastered the art of wet plate collodion photography through study with experts John Coffer at “Camp Tintype” and Lisa Elmaleh at the Penumbra Foundation, NYC. Crafting numerous plates in his Roxbury, NY studio, Mark’s work combines historical techniques with a personal artistic vision.

In this intimate workshop for five, Mark will share his expertise, offering students a hands-on experience with cameras and chemicals provided. This class presents a rare opportunity to dive into the captivating world of wet plate photography, guided by a passionate and skilled photographer.
