Opening Reception: The Bold and the Beautiful

Headwaters Arts Center 66 Main Street, Stamford, NY

Please join us at Headwaters Arts Center on February 10th from 5 to 7 pm to celebrate the opening of the art exhibit, "The Bold and the Beautiful".  This two-person exhibition will feature handwoven tapestries by Tabitha Gilmore-Barnes and handmade rugs and wall hangings by Liza Oesterle. Come explore the bold colors and imagery created by these two local artists. Light refreshments will be available.  The show will be on display until Saturday, March 25th. Handbuilding in Clay

Headwaters Arts Center 66 Main Street, Stamford, NY

Rhonda Harrow-Engel will lead workshop participants through the steps of making slab constructions from clay: mugs, vases, pitchers or jars. There will be the option to decorate with stamps and incising and also select the glaze of your choice. Rhonda will fire the pieces at her studio and will have them ready for pick up at the end of February. Rhonda has been teaching Drawing and Ceramics at SUNY Delhi for 30 years. She is in the midst of retiring and is beginning to offer workshops for the community at large. Monoprint Workshop

Learn to create one-of-a-kind monoprints using gel plates and acrylic paints. Spontaneity is the beauty of this medium. It’s a combination of printmaking, painting, and drawing media all rolled into one. Participants will be introduced to mono and transfer printing. This workshop is led by Celia Buchanan. Animation Camp

Come join us at Headwaters Arts Center from February 20-24th for Animation Camp! Design and create your own stop motion film during this five-day camp. Students will use a variety of materials to create their own characters and environments, then film their animations frame by frame.  Add sound effects and music to see your characters come to life during this exciting hands-on camp! Introduction to Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP) with Megan Avery FPP is the technique of using paper as a foundation to stabilize the quilt block as it is constructed, allowing you to sew almost any shape, size or type of quilt block. The technique is used to achieve precise, small and detailed piecing, and specific and unusual shapes that might not necessarily be achieved through traditional piecing. Intro to Watercolor

Sharon Suess will lead participants through the steps of creating a tranquil birch tree scene. Different watercolor techniques and materials will be demonstrated. Suess’ encouraging and supportive style sets beginners and more experienced painters at ease. Come learn some new skills or refresh your existing ones! The fee for this workshop is $45 and includes all materials. An artist, writer, and instructor, Sharon has lived in the Catskill Mountains since 1979.
