When I was a kid, I loved to create–
I made dolls from scratch, candles, needlepoint projects from my own designs, papier-mâché jewelry, hooked rugs, drawings, paintings and the like.
I went to art school–Cooper Union and the Fashion Institute of Technology.
I worked at a furniture store.
I went to Hunter College at night, wanting to become an art teacher. I made baby quilts and thought I could pay my rent doing just that. When my money ran out, I finally got a textile design job. I enjoyed doing that work so much. The focus was on color.
Color COLOR color. I love color. It is so satisfying to put two colors together and have them work together, just right.
…or three colors, or more…
on walls, furniture, textiles, paper, cardboard and beyond.
I became a teacher at 40, and finally, an art teacher a few years after that.
I love kids! I love teaching them and watching them make new things.
It’s all coming together.
I am lucky.
