uncleshake

August 26, 2022 @ 7:00 pm

uncleshake is an acoustic eclectic trio that make themselves happy by playing a style of music they like to call Vaudeville Grunge.

Although they refer to their music as non-traditional, their sound is rooted in early century ragtime and the jazz and blues coming out of the era.  Some of their favorite influences include the marvelous Mr. Tom Waits, the uncanny Devil Makes Three and the almighty Squirrel Nut Zippers.  They have released two collections so far and are busy working on a third.

In the six years they have been playing, uncleshake has had a varied line up.  Several friends have joined them on stage and shaped their sound and approach over and over.  Currently they are covering all their bases with three members.

Nate Sloan (Tuba, Trumpet, Trombone, Vocals) received his BFA in Music Performance from Fredonia State University.  While there he was a performing member with the Spirit of Atlanta Drum & Bugle Corps.  He has been performing with uncleshake for about 2 years and is looking forward to many more!

Brian Foster (Bass, Vocals) has nearly 30 years’ experience playing bass.  Brian has played in numerous bands in upstate New York as well as a short run in Florida.  He is a founding member of the Southern Tier Bass Collective, and an emergent artist with MTD Basses. Jake Hoag (Guitar, Vocals, Kazoo, Foot Drums) picked up a guitar about three decades ago and started trying to figure it out.  It didn’t take too long for him to realize the most exciting part for him was the creation of a song.  He says, “Although I feel like I’m only just starting to understand aspects of the guitar, I’m always in awe when I can help coax a song into existence.  We absolutely love sharing our music and our only hope is everyone has as much fun listening as we do playing!”
