Learn how to make traditional wet-plate tintypes, ambrotypes, and glass-plate negatives in this special full-day hands-on workshop.  Students will learn from start to finish how to go about the hobby of wet-plate, from where and how to purchase equipment, safety measures, chemical preparation, coating and exposing plates, and varnishing images.  Materials will be provided and students will go home with at least one tintype and glass plate.  Students should bring a lunch and wear clothing that can be stained.

Kevin Q. Gray is a fine art photographer living in upstate New York. His work spans digital, film, and alternative photographic processes such as dry-plate tintypes, wet-plate photography, and emulsion lifts. He received a BFA in Photography and Painting from Hartwick College in Oneonta, NY, and an MFA in Visual Arts from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University. Much of Kevin’s work is based on nature and the landscape, but he also creates work that explores notions of nostalgia, memory, and history. Kevin lives in Cherry Valley with his wife and a myriad of domesticated animals.
