“There in lies some of the fun of making a Scare Crow, they become a part of our environment residing on a bed, a front porch, or in the garden, they just might make you jump!”

– Heidi Stanton

Led by teaching artist Heidi Stanton, this workshop aims to inspire as participants create scarecrows for the annual Stamford Scarecrow Festival on Sunday, October 6 for the chance to win cash prizes! Some materials are provided, and workshop participants are encouraged to bring additional supplies to add their own unique touch to their creations.

Heidi Stanton studied fine arts at Cazenovia College, and the State University College at Oneonta and currently works at The Main View Gallery with a group of wonderful adult artists with developmental disabilities. Stanton has taught a variety of sculpture projects using found objects such as a Vine dolls class, and perhaps one of her most fun projects was constructing a 7ft. scare crow ‘woman’ to watch over our garden plot at the Oneonta Community Garden. Later that same year Stanton worked with Tim Sullivan to help him create a life-size scare crow of him self.  ‘Tim’ took 1st place in West Kortright Centre Farm Fair Scarecrow contest.
