Artist(s) seeking to exhibit with the Roxbury Arts Group outside of our Open Call opportunities are invited to submit an exhibition proposal detailing an artistic and/or curatorial vision and up to 5 work samples to community@roxburyartsgroup.org.

“Forgotten Spaces” – Open Call

The Roxbury Arts Group invites artists to submit works that explore personal, metaphorical and societal understandings of space. These can be of physical structures, such as houses and barns and landscapes, but they can also be theoretical and emotional. Do you remember your childhood bedroom? Is the memory fuzzy at the edges? Invite us in, show us the old markings of your growing height on the doorframe. We’d love to see it all.

Artists can submit up to three pieces for consideration by completing an application through the form linked here.

There is application fee of $25. Possible mediums for consideration include paintings, prints, photographs, digital work, drawings, sculpture, textiles, audio/video, or multidisciplinary works. Interactive pieces are welcomed. If selected, works need to be gallery ready for installation in our Walter Meade Gallery at the Roxbury Arts Center in Roxbury, NY. Those submitting audio/video works must be able to bring their own electronics for their display in the gallery.

The deadline for “Forgotten Spaces” Open Call submissions is 4:00pm on January 9, 2024. Artists will be notified about their application on January 23rd, 2024. If selected to participate in the exhibition, work must be delivered to the Roxbury Arts Center, 5025 Vega Mountain Road, Roxbury, between February 6th– 10th, 2024. The exhibition is scheduled to open on February 17th , 2024 with an Artist Reception at 4:00p and remain on view through April 13th, 2024. If marked for sale and a piece is bought, the gallery reserves 30% of all gallery purchases. Secrets, Confessions & Revelations” Open Call ***Closed***

The process of creative examination often leads to the careful consideration and investigation of an artist’s essence and environment.

Through this open call, the Roxbury Arts Group invites artists to explore the notions of secrets, confessions and revelations through their work. Their explorations can be personal, a reflection of society, a challenge to their community, or any other perception of the open call topic.

Possible mediums could include paintings, prints, photographs, digital work, drawings, 3 dimensional objects, or a combination thereof. Interactive pieces are welcomed. If selected, works need to be gallery ready for installation.

Artists can submit up to three pieces for consideration by completing an application through the form linked below with a $25 fee. Fees will be waived for emerging artists which is defined as an artist who has not yet participated in a solo or two-person exhibition.

The deadline for “Secrets, Confessions & Revelations” Open Call submissions is 4:00p on Friday, February 10, 2023. If selected to participate in the exhibition, work must be delivered to the Roxbury Arts Center, 5025 Vega Mountain Road, Roxbury, between March 7 – 11, 2023. Large Works” Open Call ***Closed***

Exhibit Dates: November 5, 2022 – January 7, 2023
Deadline for submissions: September 29, 2022
If selected, work due to gallery: October 19, 2022

Normally a once every 5 years show, and last on display in 2020,  Large Works is back! Coming November 5, 2022 “All Works Great and Small” our “Large Works” show partners up with the annual “Small Works”  show under this new name! “Large Works” will fill the Hilt and Stella Kelly Hall and “Small Works” will feature in the Walt Meade Gallery. The Large Works portion of this exhibition will be an open call format. Applications are due by September 29, 2022.

Applications are due September 29, 2022 by 4pm.

There is no set minimum dimensions for Large Works. This is up to interpretation. The review panel will accept all size works. If an artist is submitting a piece in a larger format than they traditionally work, they should state that in their statement. Previous ‘Large Work’ pieces have included floor to ceiling works and pieces that were comprised of smaller elements making up a large piece. We are also open to pieces that reflect the concept of large in their context.

All possible mediums will be considered, including paintings, prints, photographs, digital work, drawings, 3 dimensional objects, or a combination thereof.

If selected, works need to be ready for installation. Pieces can be wall mounted, free standing, or suspended from the performance hall lighting grid (approx. 23 ft.) and ceiling hooks. We are unable to accommodate pieces that require drilling into the floor. If necessary, and artist can assist with installation on the scheduled date. If selected, work due to gallery October 19 – 29, 2022. Work that requires more than two people to install, or artists that wish to be on site for installation, should call ahead to arrange an appointment.

Submission Process: An artist can submit up to three pieces for consideration for the Large Works exhibit. Utilizing Submittable, upload one file for each piece to be considered. You can also submit an artist statement for each piece, or one artists statement for all pieces submitted if they are part of the same collection.

Submission Fee: $20 per artist, up to three pieces per artists. Fee is waived for emerging artists. An emerging artist is defined as an artist who has not yet participated in a solo or two-person exhibit. Emerging artists should contact the Roxbury Arts Group directly at 607.326.7908 or community@roxburyartsgroup.org to submit their work for consideration.

Selection Process: A panel comprised of artists and Roxbury Arts Group staff will select the works to be included in this exhibit. Artists will be notified of panel decisions by October 7 – 11, 2022.

Inscapes” Open Call ***Closed***

Roxbury Arts Group invites artists to submit work to an Open Call exploring “Inscapes”, interior architecture, the counterpart to the landscape surrounding a structure, which opens at the Walt Meade Gallery of the Roxbury Arts Center on Saturday, March 19, 2022. The deadline for the Open Call submissions is 4:00p on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. Roxbury Arts Group invites artists to submit work to an Open Call exploring the changing roles of women for an upcoming exhibition, “Who’s Going to Stop Me?,” which opens at the Walt Meade Gallery of the Roxbury Arts Center on Saturday, May 15, 2021. The deadline for the Open Call submissions is 4:00p on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. Throughout history, throughout a lifetime, and even throughout a day, the roles and perceptions of a woman have, and continue, to drastically change. From mother, caregiver, healer, leader, and warrior, to victim, scapegoat, and target. Women are boundary-pushers, commanders, and glass ceiling breakers. We hope artists will capture the complexities of what it means to be a woman, and are invited to use personal experiences in their work and share them with our audience. Show us where you have been, where you are, and/or where you’re hoping to go.

Large Works Open Call ***Closed***

Back by popular demand, the Roxbury Arts Group invites artists to submit  up to three works for the a Large Works exhibit at the Roxbury Arts Group. Utilizing both the Roxbury Arts Center’s gallery and performances spaces, Large Works allows artists working on a large scale to exhibit their work at our upstate Catskills organization.

Possible mediums could include paintings, prints, photographs, digital work, drawings, 3 dimensional objects, or a combination thereof. Interactive pieces are welcomed. If selected, works need to be ready for installation although pieces may be assembled inside the building to accommodate pieces larger then our doorway. Pieces can be wall mounted, free standing, or suspended for the gallery ceiling (approx.12 ft.) or the performance hall lighting grid (approx. 23 ft.). We are unable to accommodate pieces that require drilling into the floor. If necessary, an artist can assist with installation on the scheduled date.

Human Variations ***Closed***

The Roxbury Arts Group invites artists to submit work for a summer exhibit celebrating humanity through a portrait exhibition. This exhibition in the Walt Meade Gallery of the Roxbury Arts Center is devoted to finding work that celebrates the human variations that create the fabric of diversity in our humanity. Submitted portraits may be traditional, but artists are encouraged to submit creative approaches to portraiture.

Possible mediums could include paintings, prints, photographs, digital work, drawings, 3 dimensional objects, or a combination thereof. Interactive pieces are welcomed. If selected, works need to be gallery ready for installation.

Submission Format: One jpeg image for each piece to be considered, up to three submissions per artist. A submission should be accompanied by a Submission Form.

Contemporary Landscapes ***Closed***

Exhibit Dates: March 10 – April 14, 2018

The Roxbury Arts Group invites artists to submit work for a spring exhibit celebrating Contemporary Landscapes. This exhibition is devoted to finding work that shows interpretations of landscapes that are inventive, thought-provoking and display expertise in both skill and execution of their concept. Submitted landscapes may be traditional, but artists are encouraged to reach beyond and explore the ideas of cultural landscapes, fabricated landscapes, cityscapes, etc.

Possible mediums could include paintings, prints, photographs, digital work, drawings, 3 dimensional objects, or a combination thereof. Interactive pieces are welcomed. If selected, works need to be gallery ready for installation.

Artists Stand Up ***Closed***

Exhibit Dates: May 13 – June 24, 2017

What do you stand up for? Throughout history, artists have used their work to make political impressions, express personal feelings, defend the environment, etc. Use this opportunity to make your stand. For this group exhibition at the Roxbury Arts Center, the Arts Group is asking artists what they stand up for. Show us what you believe, defend, and uphold.

Possible mediums could include 3 dimensional objects, paintings, prints, photographs and drawings or a combination thereof. Interactive pieces are welcomed but not required. If selected, works will need to be gallery ready for installation.

Literary artists, musicians, and other performance artists are welcome to submit work. The Arts Group will program a performance date for these artists to share their work in the gallery. Date of performance will be determined and emailed to artists before announcements are made to ensure your availability.

Young at Art ***Closed***

Exhibit Dates: January 21 – February 25, 2017

The Roxbury Arts Group is excited to present Young at Art in the Walt Meade Gallery of the Roxbury Arts Center. During those cold, gray days of winter, this exhibit is meant to lift spirits and engage children. Young at Art will reach children at their eye level, creativity level, and excitement level. In an effort to create a space where children can have an art gallery experience without being told no and not to touch, all work should be able to withstand the force of little hands.

Possible mediums could include 3 dimensional objects, paintings, prints, photographs and drawings or a combination thereof. Interactive pieces are welcomed but not required. If selected, works will need to be gallery ready for installation.
