Oct 8 – Dec 3 – History Alive: Dramatic Writing Workshop

$65 workshop fee
5 sessions
Thursday evenings 6-8p
On Zoom
Oct 8 & 22 | Nov 5 & 19 | Dec 3

This five-session workshop will meet for two-hour sessions every other week totaling ten hours total. Over the course of the ten weeks, each participant will write a 3-5 minute dramatic monologue based on local historical newspaper articles.

The source material for these writings will be provided from Catskill Mountain News Archives and other local texts. The participants will learn basic playwriting and character writing skills. The first several weeks of the class will be spent writing and editing these pieces, as well as reading their work aloud and receiving feedback from fellow participants and the instructor.

At the fourth class, the monologues will be handed over to a cast of actors. The playwrights will spend the class meeting with their actors and director (Laura) to develop the performance of their monologues. For the culmination of the class, the actors will perform the monologue with introductions by the writers. This performance can either be performed live via ZOOM or recorded.
