The Roxbury Arts Group is proud to host the 17th Catskill Mountain Quilters Hall of Fame Quilt Show featuring outstanding quilters from all five counties in the Catskill Mountains, which includes Delaware, Schoharie, Greene, Sullivan and Ulster.
This year’s theme “Let’s Celebrate Quilting” will be interpreted in traditional and art quilts sure to expand your understanding of what quilting is all about.
Quilts are often made to celebrate special events and can convey strong emotions of love, happiness, faith or sorrow. Already one interesting story has emerged. Lesley Gray (Andes), President of the Hall of Fame has an interesting collection of miniature quilts which were given to her by a Secret Pal over the course of a 12-month period. First she received a doll (which she promptly named Emily Ann) and a miniature quilt depicting January. In February, another package was unwrapped to reveal a Valentine theme and so on throughout the entire year, finishing with a Christmas quilt in December. Emily Ann and her collection of miniature quilts will be a special feature in this year’s show.
Eileen Buel (Gilboa) returns to her home town of Roxbury with an absolutely stunning quilt “Flowers for my Wedding Ring” which will be on display. This quilt won a Blue Ribbon and a Special Choice Judge’s Award at the 2014 Vermont Film Festival. It took Eileen about a year to complete the complicated paper piecing and hand applique on this quilt. She then gave it to Laurie Collins, (East Greenbush), a professional long arm quilter to add the incredible machine quilting. You will be amazed and you don’t even have to travel to Vermont to see it.
