FIDDLERS! 30

The Roxbury Arts Group is thrilled to present the 30th annual FIDDLERS!, a celebration of the timeless tradition and toe-tapping rhythms of fiddle music. This year’s show promises to be the best yet, featuring three amazing performances that are sure to delight audiences of all ages. Join us for incredible sets by Bruce Molsky, Vinta, and Drank the Gold.

Vinta is Nathan Smith, Emilyn Stam, John David Williams, and Robert Alan Mackie, four brilliant performers and close friends at the cutting edge of European traditional music in Canada. Nearly a decade of these four musicians hanging out at fiddle jams around Toronto has culminated in this quartet, bringing new intensity to old tunes, and growing new tunes from old sources. A band of multi-instrumentalists and genuine scholars, Vinta is making music that is powerful, profound, and fiercely danceable.

Grammy-nominated, described as “an absolute master” (No Depression), Molsky transports audiences to another time and place, with his authentic and personal interpretations of rarities from the Southern Appalachian songbook and other musical traditions from around the globe. Best known for his work on the fiddle, Bruce’s banjo, guitar and his distinctive, powerful vocals also resonate with listeners. His combination of technical virtuosity and relaxed conversational wit makes a concert hall feel like an intimate front porch gathering. 

Drank the Gold’s Oona Grady and James Gascoyne play and sing North Atlantic dance tunes and folk songs.  Both steeped in music from an early age, they have been performing together since 2015.  Their album, Sipped The Silver, simultaneously features Oona’s deep Irish fiddle roots; James’ compositional talents; and their shared passion for digging deep into traditional music and finding something new to say.
