The Roxbury Arts Group turns 40!
Forty years ago, a group of dedicated community members gathered around a kitchen table and spoke about a need to create a venue to deliver high-quality arts programing to the rural towns and villages in which we live. Together with founder Nancy Harding, they cleared a path and built a foundation for the Roxbury Arts Group, and organization that has been celebrating its 40th Anniversary with the ‘Season of Free’ in 2019, and now invites all community members to a special Birthday Celebration & Dedication on Saturday, October 5 in Kirkside Park in Roxbury. This event is free and open to all.
The Roxbury Arts Group’s 40th Birthday Party will begin with a special dedication on ‘The Island’ in Kirkside Park at 2:00p, followed by a celebration in The Barns. “Wacky” Wendy Brackman will dazzle attendees with her instant party hats that she deftly cuts from paper disks in just seconds. Friends and neighbors will gather streamside in Kirkside Park, along with staff, volunteers, and board members who have worked to support the Arts Group over the past four decades, to share memories of the organization that they have worked to shape and build for generations to enjoy. Bring your own memories and photographs to share!
A special feature of the celebration will be ’40 Cakes for 40 Years,’ a juried cake contest with prizes, as well as a cake silent auction. Bakers of all ages can join the fun with contributions of their favorite layer cakes – new recipes or family traditions. “All the cakes will be auctioned and bakers may also choose to enter their cake in the juried bake-off for prizes.” says Bonnie Walker, chair of the Roxbury Arts Group 40th Birthday Celebration event. “Get out your baking pans and your favorite recipes, and contact the Roxbury Arts Group for entry forms and contest rules.” All attendees will join in a toast to the Arts Group with champagne punch and a slice of cake.
