The Roxbury Arts Center comes alive with renowned performance troupe Loco7‘s acclaimed PLUNGE. Using dance, design, and puppetry, PLUNGE will captivate audiences with a lively and thought-provoking interpretation of the immigrant experience.

Since their inception in 1985, Loco7’s mission has been to develop the use of puppetry as an instrument for the performer. Utilizing rhythmic music, dancers, body puppets, and larger-than-life marionettes, leader Federico Restrepo weaves a choreography extending beyond the body. Embracing themes such as South American Culture & History, the immigrant experience, and urban life, Restrepo creates animated movement in an ever-changing and surreal environment, bringing the stage to life.

PLUNGE is a solo work which combines the use of body puppets, marionettes, masks, dance, and music. It is framed in an unfamiliar world where in the protagonist struggles to find a new place to call home. His journey is filled with strange dreams which encroach on his view of the world, creating exciting conceptual images of the “displaced”. Restrepo explains, “Grandparents ashes and the footsteps through the earth give us a way to enter the strange world of the main character as he deals with dreams of his former world, his homeland.”

PLUNGE, as with other Loco7 productions, creates movement and visual elements to abstractly express the anguish and detachment, which is the displaced persons experience; taking aim at the transcending barriers and linking the political and social borders which are in constant flux throughout the global community.
