The Roxbury Arts Group is thrilled to exhibit the inspirational works of our community’s youngest artists – the students of Margaretville and Roxbury Central School District, in emergingARTIST, a new exhibit that opens with a family-friendly reception on Saturday, May 4 at 4:00p in the Walt Meade Gallery located at the Roxbury Arts Center, 5025 Vega Mountain Road. This event is free and open to the public. The exhibit will remain in view through Saturday, May 25.

Curated by local Arts Educators Katy DiBenedetto, Michelle Dietz and Amy Royal, emergingARTIST highlights the unbridled creativity of youth. With works from students in elementary and secondary grades, pieces in this exhibition include sculpture, prints, papier-mâché, collage, and story-telling.

“The arts are an essential element to any well-rounded education,” says Jenny Rosenzweig, Executive Director of the Roxbury Arts Group. “The arts are fundamental in supporting language development, critical-thinking and decision-making, inventiveness, cultural awareness, and improved academic performance. All of us at the Roxbury Arts Group are honored to shine a spotlight on the work being done in our local school district by our regional Arts Educators and the budding artists they are molding in their classrooms.”

In addition to the exhibition, the Roxbury Arts Group will also host a student-led art workshop on Saturday, May 18 at 11:00a at the Roxbury Arts Center. Open to community members and families of all ages, this free workshop led by Roxbury Central School students will allow participants to draw inspiration from the springtime weather as they create their own fairy abodes. All materials will be provided, and young children should be accompanied by an adult guest.
