Sondra’s Kitchen (detail), oil on panel, 79″ x 131.75″

Step inside with Chelsea Gibson to experience and explore the space within. This solo exhibit includes new work, large and small, all with exquisite attention to detail. You’ll get lost in Gibson’s pieces as you explore each nook she carefully created.

Chelsea Gibson is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design (BFA Painting 2006), and Boston University (MFA Painting 2010).  In her ever-evolving home/studio in Gilbertsville, NY, Gibson investigates personal domestic spaces in large oil paintings and very small watercolors.  The duality of possessions and clutter, versus the creative, life-giving, and universal importance of home fill her paintings to the brim.  Directly based on collaged photographs, Gibson’s oddly shaped panels establish an all-encompassing and welcoming perspective. The viewer is invited into Gibson’s spaces to sit at the table or help cook; to investigate and empathize with the lives of people we can relate to on a basic, generous, more human level.
