The Roxbury Arts Group will honor the 2017 Decentralization Grant recipients at an Awards Reception held in the Roxbury Arts Center on Friday, March 24 at 5:30 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Please join us to learn more about the amazing programs taking place in Delaware County, and in congratulating the artists and organizations who were awarded this year!
The Decentralization Grant Program is a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency, and is administered in Delaware County by the Roxbury Arts Group. This year the Roxbury Arts Group is proud to announce additional funding support provided by Delaware County Economic Development. Awards granted in 2017 will provide over 50 events including concerts, workshops, theatrical performances, visual arts exhibits, and special programs for children and family audiences all over Delaware County.

Community Arts Grants:
Tri-Town Theatre will be performing a full staged production of “The Fantastiks” by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones, featuring community actors.
2017 Summer Nights LIVE on The Square presents a series of music and dance performances spanning multiple genres and cultures in Hancock’s Town Square with support from the Hancock Partners Inc.
The Halcottsville Shakespeare Company will present Romeo and Juliet, in the midst of the Round Barn Farmer’s market, featuring teen actors from both Delaware County and the Bronx, thanks to support from MURAL on Main.
The 5th Annual Dancing in the Park, with support from Andes Free Library, features visual artists and dancer/choreographers of the Catskills collaborating in a celebration of our human body and the natural world in which we live as a part of the 2017 Andes Community Day celebration. Ballentine Park, August 12, at 12:30 pm.
Local Wisdom – Community Performance Theatre, with assistance from the Mark Project, will use the art of storytelling for the development of two Local Wisdom workshops and one public performance. Real life stories of community members fosters a sense of place and triggers ongoing communication, collaboration, and community sustainability.
Writers in the Mountain provide support for Raining Poetry in Roxbury 2017. This installation includes poetry written by local poets stenciled on the sidewalks in Roxbury, to be revealed only when wet.
Longyear Gallery Artists offer art workshops for the community. Elaine Mayes will lead a photography workshop, May 27 and June 3. Helene Manzo presents a workshop combing plein air painting and monotypes, June 10 and 11. Gerda van Leeuwen- teaches us how to make nature prints with a printing press, May 27 and 28.
The Hobart Festival of Women Writers presents public readings, writing workshops, and daylong writing intensives by up to 20 published women writers. With support from the Hobart Community Foundation, this event will take place September 8-10.
Hancock Community Education Foundation presents Nature Inspired Art Workshops at the Robert W. Nichol Nature Preserve & Science Center and the Hancock Town Square from April 2017 through September 2017.
With support from MURAL on Main, the Artists Making aRt ™ (AMR) Open Studios Tour 2017 invites you to join the self-guided art tours as 30 artists engage studio visitors in the ‘inspiration to creation’ process over two weekends: July 8 & 9 (Stamford-Hobart-South Kortright) and July 29 & 30 (Margaretville-Roxbury).
The Gilding Bee invites you to participate in an interactive series of artist led gold leafing workshops and a community exhibition designed to connect the diverse seasonal and year round residents of Fleischmanns, made possible with support from the Mark Project.
Friends of Music of Stamford will present a concert by the New Asia Chamber Music Society, featuring trio and quartet combinations and a rare Chinese stringed instrument, the er-hu.
The Community Chorale of the Catskills has been awarded funds to assist in their tradition of performing two concerts each year (each concert performed twice, once at Roxbury Central School and once at Margaretville United Methodist Church) in June and December.
The William B. Ogden Library presents The Music in Us. This project includes two interactive musical presentations open to the public by Bells & Motley, and Chelsie Henderson and Wayne White of Rural Soul Studio, in June and July of 2017.
Arts in Education Grants:
Catskill Center for Conservation and Development/Healthy Waters: Utilizing Art to Teach Science: Artist Bryan Perrin utilizes art to teach and reinforce scientific concepts related to stream health.
