June 21 – Drop In Art Class: Photos in the Sunlight – Cyanotypes

11:30 am – 2:00 pm
Roxbury Arts Center
$30 per person, includes all materials.

Get inspired by working with different mediums, subjects, and teaching artists at this new Roxbury Arts Group program. Beginning and experienced artists are welcomed.

This month’s Drop In Art Class, led by photographer Kevin Q. Gray, is for anyone interested in exploring alternative photographic processes, beginning with the most convenient, safest and fun process available – cyanotypes.  These blue prints are made by exposing a specially-coated paper to sunlight (or UV bulbs) and then developing them in water. Cyanotypes can be made using objects placed directly on the paper, such as plants, or with large photographic negatives. In this workshop participants will be shown how to make their own digital negatives using photo editing software and an inkjet printer and how to purchase, prepare and print a cyanotype.

urlAbout the artist: Kevin Q. Gray is a fine art photographer living in Cherry Valley, NY. He has exhibited his work widely in the region, including in the Walt Meade Gallery of the Roxbury Arts Center.  He has won numerous awards for his digital, film, and alternative process photography.  He currently teaches photography at SUNY Oneonta.  View his work at www.kevinqgray.com.
