A Stamford resident and new mother, artist Alejandra Castaneda, challenges the romantic notion of entering motherhood.
“Working on my art as I try not to loose myself”-Alejandra Castaneda
“Diaries of a milking boob” is me…. I’m the milking boob. I am a food source 24/7 which is not as “romantic” as I thought it would be.
I didn’t intent for my paintings to have a direct connection with motherhood, but I realized that
becoming a mother has taken over my life, so I might as well paint about it.
“…of mothers and mother shockers”
My work is a visual venting on my experience, the sleep deprivation, the pains of breastfeeding, the expectations of society and tradition, my own personal relationships with mothers and motherhood, my past and the intense fears for the future.
The lack of time, the rushing in the strokes or detailing on some of the paintings are directly correlated with the actual moment in which I’m able to work; which is at times hectic, sometimes peaceful and it can be seen in the variety of techniques and styles that I’ve used.
