Basket Weaving Workshop with Martha Bremer
May 15 @ 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
The ever stylish and functional Melon Basket is a great project for the beginner weaver. This round style of basket is aptly named for its size and shape, and is also known affectionately as the potato or egg basket.
This class will introduce basic weaving techniques, such as hoop construction, that produce beautiful and strong round-bottom baskets. Each weaver will complete a colorful and unique basket to take home.
About the Teaching Artist: Martha Bremer has been exploring the craft of basket weaving and seat weaving for the last 30 years. She studied at Brookfield Craft Institute in Connecticut with many well-known contemporary basket weavers in the late eighties. Mostly self-taught since then, her works has been exhibited in many galleries, exhibitions and stores in New York. She is also experienced in teaching basket weaving in schools and community classes. Her present focus is on traditional and functional styles.
