Classes held in October, November and December will focus on painting light and shadow. Led by artists Lisbeth Firmin, students will be working from a still life set up in the painting space using oils, watercolors, pastels, etc. and will be encouraged to work quickly with big brushes and bold color to capture the light and energy of the subject matter. This class is valuable for both beginners and advanced painters who want to expand their painting skills. Firmin will be giving a short demonstration at the beginning of each class, and there will be a critique at the end of each session.

Lisbeth Firmin is a contemporary American realist whose imagery explores the relationship between people and their environment… depicting modern life while exploring timeless themes of solitude and isolation; interpenetrating the light and shadow that describe the human form in a specific moment. Firmin skates the rails between realism and abstraction the much the same way David Park, or some of Richard Diebenkorn’s figurative work, does.
