We are thrilled to kick off our 2016 season with the contemporary aesthetics and lush, full-bodied movement of world-renowned dance company ZviDance. The troupe will grace the Roxbury Arts Center with the acclaimed DABKE.

Conceived by famed choreographer Zvi Gotheiner – recently profiled in the New York Times – DABKE is inspired both by Gotheiner’s upbringing on a kibbutz and an ancient Middle-Eastern folk dance. Arabic for “stomping the ground,” Dabke is the national dance of Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Palestine; Israelis have their own version. Created after the “Arab Spring” ignited the Middle-East with unstoppable forces for change, DABKE highlights tribal and national identities while also dissolving those definitions. By creating DABKE, Zvi Gotheiner and his dancers use the power of art to acknowledge the ripple effect of global change on all of us.

And don’t miss Zvi Gotheiner’s dance class on Saturday, April 9th, at 10 am! This is a not-to-be-missed opportunity for dancers of any style and/or level!
