Soft sculptor Toni Brogan’s exhibition ‘Chromatic Family’ opens with a reception at the Roxbury Arts Center, 5025 Vega Mountain Road in Roxbury, on Saturday, July 31 from 4:00 – 6:00p. These
pieces explore family – love, loss, dysfunction and ultimately the dissolution of it resulting in estrangement. The opening reception and visits to the Walt Meade Gallery are always free and open to all. For more information about this exhibition and the Roxbury Arts Group visit www.roxburyartsgroup.org or call 607-325-7908.
“Brogan’s pieces are both striking in color and rich in texture” says Grants & Community Coordinator Samantha Nick. “The artist’s personal reflection on family is clearly communicated by the intensity of the color choices, weaving and knotting of the sculptures.”
Toni Brogan’s exploration in her current series of soft sculpture are described by the artist as “organized chaos”. Often finding inspiration from the surrounding Catskill Mountains, Brogan draws inspiration from the change of seasons and compositions in her creation. Toni’s pieces’ present intricate webs, circular forms with splintering joints, and hanging forms. The hanging forms create a concatenation, each separate but required by the next to survive.
