Who needs the mall? The Roxbury Arts Group’s annual Local Arts Market has everything you require for the gift-giving season. As part of the town-wide First Light Celebration, on Saturday, December 5th, from 11 AM to 7 PM, the Roxbury Arts Center at 5025 Vega Mountain Road in Roxbury becomes a festive community marketplace where you can score great deals.
The Local Arts Market features many quality, one-of-a-kind gifts made by renowned local artisans, all presented in a fun, family friendly environment: cozy felt and wool items from Woolly Bear, jewelry from Gemesis, Designs by Graceanne, Malaprop Designs, and Copper Fern Designs, jellies from Red Currant, loomed items from Tabitha Gilmore-Barnes, calendars and prints by the acclaimed Lisbeth Firmin, handmade fabric bags, purses, totes and items for the home from Millions of Stitches, home décor from Rachelle’s Rustic Wreaths, baked goods and gift-wrapping from the parents of Roxbury Central School’s Class of 2016, and MORE! Affordable, one-of-a-kind gift ideas, or just something new for you, all crafted in these very Catskill hills. It’ll be a fine day to stroll along Main Street, drop in at Roxbury restaurants and shops, and cap it off with a visit to this special event, at which Roxbury Arts Group staffers will be selling beautiful vintage RAG posters and refreshments.
But the Local Arts Market isn’t just about shopping. At 12:30 PM, award-winning kids’ musician Uncle Rock will play seasonal tunes, and from 1 PM to 2 PM, Santa Claus himself will make the scene. At 5 PM, join friends and neighbors on the corner of Main Street and Bridge Street to “Light Up Roxbury,” when town residents and businesses will switch on their holiday lights at the same time as the beautiful Roxbury Christmas Tree, kicking off a hamlet-wide Holiday Lighting & Decor Contest, and casting a multi-colored glow over the Catskill dusk. Back at the Roxbury Arts Center, the Community Holiday Party will be in full swing from 5 PM to 7 PM. Bring a dish to add to the refreshments provided, and soak up the holiday cheer with live music from Robert Burke Warren.
All events are free and open to the public.
