Inspired by Graffiti *** Closed***

Exhibit Dates: Saturday, May 14- Saturday, July 2, 2016
Deadline for submissions: Saturday, April 15, 2016

What was once a subversive urban art form is now widely accepted as a well-respected movement in public art. Graffiti has documented our history, told our stories, influenced political movements, and has given a voice to communities without saying a word.

When seen in this light, how could one deny the importance influence Graffiti has had on the arts.

The Roxbury Arts Group is seeking submissions from artists (street artists, muralists, alternative visual artists, et al) in response to this open call with graffiti-style art work and work inspired by graffiti for this group exhibit. Artists may find inspiration from the aesthetics, attitude, or the ideology of graffiti.

With this exhibit, the Roxbury Arts Group is looking to make a bold statement in Walt Meade Gallery of the Roxbury Arts Group, located in a quintessential Catskill community in upstate New York. Each artist can submit up to three (3) pieces for consideration – show us how you will energize the space! Include an artist statement regarding the inspiration you derive from graffiti.

For additional inspiration/motivation check out these artists: Swoon, Fab5Freddy, Chico, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Banksy, Blek le Rat, and Keith Haring.

Artists selected to participate in this exhibit will also be invited (and strongly encouraged) to participate in an artist talk on date to be determined.

Possible mediums could include 3 dimensional objects, paintings, prints, photographs and drawings or a combination thereof. Depending on submissions, artists may be allowed to create direct wall pieces. If selected, works will need to be gallery ready for installation and delivered to the Roxbury Arts Group by Saturday, May 6, 2016.

Submission Format: One jpeg image for each piece to be considered. Each submission should be accompanied by a brief artist statement. An artist can submit up to three works for consideration.
